Stylus Units Sold

Post by kevp »

I have just recieved the current copy of Totalkitcar mag.
It has a feature on Silvia with the history of Jeremy Phillips & the cars he has designed & sold.

The Stylus has a listing of 20 cars sold from first manafacture to date!

Can anyone offer a true figure ( I am assuming this one is wrong), it may be the units sold before SSC. As mine is no 51 (from 1998) but the numbers may not start at 1 or even be consecutive.

Well I'm chassis number 32 , bought in 1997 and in 2002 Peter Powell gave me a certificate required for me to enter Brighton Speed Trials which said 120 chassis had been sold to that date. You only have to look at the website list of built plus in build cars to see '' 20 '' isn't correct. They were obviously sold by JP  Rob.
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Stylus Units Sold

My chassis is 030114 (2003)

Just a few random thoughts,

Has anyone ever tried to compile a register ?

Is there a security issue in putting chassis number info in the public domain ?

If Tim could confirm that sequential numbers have been used or identify any gaps or anomalies that would be a useful step.

Steve. This makes yours chassis no 114 ? which was delivered/made in 2003.

This is not in line with Rob's post of 120 chassis by 2002 stated by Pete Powell. I cant think of a good reason to alter the chassis numbering system that has been used. If it is not sequential the current chassis would have higher numbers than Steve's would suggest.

Out of interest can any new kit owners offer their chassis numbers?

My guess is that 030113 would be US style date marking. 14 january 2003 and I don't think more than one unit can be made per day, so it's automatically a serial number.

I've got about 91 cars in the database. But I'm sure a lot of people (that don't have internet) are not registered with the club.

Merry Christmas and a happy new your to you all.

Hi Werner and all,

My chassis was ordered in June and collected in August which tends to suggest that the chassis number isn't date related. Only thing to do is ask Tim. Does Tim look at this forum?

Don't quite understand the numbering now I've looked back on my original invoice which says ---- chassis number SSC97032 . This would imply it was supplied in 1997(it was)and was the 32nd chassis made , BUT with just the one zero :?: Perhaps Peter thought they would eventually be sold in thousands so was planning ahead  Andy Bailey's was nearly a year ahead of mine and numbered SSC96012 , 13 or 14 from memory . He'll pop up here and correct me soon I expect . We did discuss (at the time we first met 1997)the possibility that chassis were stamped starting 10 maybe :?: purely for PR purposes :?: Neither of us ever asked Peter though , it just looked likely as we couldn't put a ' name ' to the first ' few '

Just to add to the confusion I think the No. series changed when pruduction changed hands as my chassis No. is S95011 -the car was supplied to its original owner in late 95 which fits with 95 being the year but I think the number series must have restarted with Peter.

It's just occured to me the 20 units might be Jeremy Phillips production - if he'd reached 11 cars by late 95 20 by mid 96 is not unreasonable.

I ordered my chassis at the end of 1996 and it was delivered at the beginning of the next year 1997 feb from memory and hit the road at the end of June 1998 beating SVA by four days how lucky was that , chassis number SSC96013 , 96 the year I ordered kit , 013 thirteenth off the production line
Revel Coles was Petes first customer and I was his fourth, so Revel is chassis number ten ? and was on the road in 1997 , Pete took over the Stylus some time in 1996 ? Nev built chassis's ten to around twenty four I think , then production of chassis went up north somewhere thats another story eh Rob

cheers Andy

ps have I known you for nearly ten years , must be getting old

So my guess of chassis made by SSC starting at 10 for PR was about right then. Regarding chassis from up north , I'm pleased Tim's taken that job back in house for many reasons  Yes we did meet 10yrs ago :!:  Rob.

Not starting a chassis number run a 1 is a common practice.
Space is left for prototype and pilot units.

The company I work for uses 1501 as the first production chassis.
