Yes , very much so. Think of your car as a se - saw with the engine being gradually slid towards the pivot. Some manufacturers will move mountains to get the engine back 1/2 an inch
If you built it as is THEN later on moved it back 3 - 4 inches , you'd really notice it . It's all about entry then exit speed ready for the staight

You have convinved me... for the sake of grinding a little section out of the footwell I will move it back. I will drop a seat in it tonight and just make sure that i can still change gear and move it back about 3 inches. My wife has small feet anyway!

Great- that means you will save weight on a shorter propshaft
also less rotating weight . I'll get you removing all your washers next

I think its easier to just wind the boost up by one PSi than do all that weight loss malarky
Not much of an update really but I thought i would post as its been quiet.
The engine mounts are made, going to be solid for now as there isnt much room in the tunnell for the gearbox to move or twist.
The g/box mount is made, the prop is the right length but the g/box end fits the spline on the box but the OD of the bit that slides over the spline is smaller than the oil seal which is a shame as if it fitted and sealed it would be job done. Never mind.
I have pulled the engine apart to assess the damage of which there is very little which is handy. I'll take some pictures when i have cleaned it up, its in soak at the moment
. I'll also take some piccys as i put it back together so you can see how easy a rotary is to build.
I cut the mk2 escort pedal box off, i am now on the hunt for a complete (preferably floor mounted) pedal box like the OBP ones so if any knows anyone selling one, let me know. Of if anyone has any advice re master cylinders or spare M/C's they wanna sell, i'm interested.
I had to cut the section of chassis that runs from the top of the inside drivers foot tunnell to the front of the chassis as the turbo goes there, there isnt one on the passenger side which is strange so i will put it back and add one to the passenger side.
Need to jet wash the 'engine bay' and paint any bits of chassis that need it.

Regarding turning up boost
More power only gives you better power to weight ------ less weight also gives this but with the added bonus of better handling
I'd go for less weight over power every time for lap times

i'll keep the washers and cut back on the mince pies this christmas
couple of piccys of the now clean rotors for those that havent seen the inside of a rotary engine before. The long slim bits are the apex seals and the little round ones are the corner seals. Strange to think these little bits of metal will help propel a drag car from 0-200 mph in under 7 seconds. New record set for the fastest 2 rotor.

Fascinating stuff!
How are the sides of the rotor sealed? Are there springs behind the apex seals to keep them in contact with the housing?

First time I see these. Expected them to be bigger.

there are 2 springs behind each apex seal. There are also side seals which are long thin strips that slot in the thin slots on the side of the rotor that make compression on the side plates.

Interesting !

I was wondering what your engine would weigh fully dressed also a suitable box ? or could the donor box be used ?

a bare block is about 70kg, with turbo and manifolds its about 110 at a guess. I would think the box is virtually the same as a ford. Its certainly the same size. I can easily pick up and carry it around. I wouldnt bother using a diferent box. I just bought a good 2nd hand one on ebay for 30 quid as a spare. The ratios are perfect for the rotary and they have a really nice short shift as stock. lots of choice with clutches and its hudrolic clutch which i prefer. S stock car with enough road will top 200 mph on the stock box and still do 10 sec 1/4 miles and 0-60 in under 5 seconds. I manged 170 mph over a standing 1.2 mile at ten of the best 4 years ago with only 380 bhp.
