Well it must have helped being based in Woking where any even semi-interested punter could go and browse or get a demo ride , within an hour of home  COSTS were dramatically cut going to Wales BUT visiters/possible buyers slowed just as dramatically :(

An old topic, so I thought no-one would mind if I hijacked it slightly
Anyway, my chassis is SSC 020100, so that would make it around 2002, but still not registered  so my question is this - what is the format that DVLA will accept chassis numbers now, as VOSA won't process my IVA application without a 17 digit VIN.
I went to DVLA in Borehamwood, but gave up as there were about 5 million people in the queue and 3 manning the desks - and they say there's no jobs out there these days??? I know plenty of government places that need extra sets of hands.
Can anyone offer some words of wisdom?

Well mine is SSC099057, which was shown on my sales invoice.
10 years ago the DVLA decided that was too short.
So I got issued a full VIN number & stamped that into the chassis.

I was too naive at the time to add on my initials/lucky number/etc to make it up to 17 digits, which I know some people did.

Someone with more recent experience should comment !

I had to extend the chassis number on mine as well. I added my initials & Liz,s bra size! Seemed to work well.

i'm not sure what the dvla rules are for chassis numbers now but i had mine registered about 3 years ago and i only used the chassis number provided which was SSCRL010 and to my understanding this was the 1st RT produced by Tim when he took control of the company. correct me if i am wrong!

maybe it depends on which DVLA station you take it to as to what they desire on the day or possibly what they had for breakfast 2 mornings before as to what they require! nothing seems to be standard for a standards organisation thats for sure!

An 8 digit number is OK under some regulation or the other. But the DVLA are bringing a 14 digit chassis number as standard, so the SVA/IVA prefer you to use this format.
So if you dont provide one - they will. And issuing one yourself means that you can keep the original SSC number, but just make it longer.

Hi All

Been mulling this over, & I was thinking about starting a Stylus chassis register (ie an Excel spreadsheet).
Would quite like to know if I've got 1 of 100 or so, rather than the 1000 (that's a guess!) or so Fury's out there

Seems likely too that there will be few Stylus produced from now on,
& its the history (& lost one's) I'm thinking of, rather than future ones.

If you feel like letting me know your chassis no, engine type & axle type (live/de dion, etc) post it here, send me a PM or email me on matt.downes@btinternet.com.
If its a Sylva (Jeremy), SSC (Pete) or SSC (Tim) would be interesting too.

I'll post the results back in due course 8)

Rgds

Matt

I'm assuming you want the manufacturers number because the DVLA chassis numbers will be meaningless . Mine was bought in 1997 , October I think . SSC97032 . The theory is that Pete numbered the first chassis as say SSC96010 seeing as he bought the manufacturing rights in 1996 , unless of course anyone knows of any chassis SSC96001 ETC :?:

Matt,
I'm another Matt so it's probably easiest to stick with Bikenuts. I'm another one using the CA18 DET engine out of a Nissan 200SX. My car was originally supplied to a guy called Mark a printer from Essex who apparently paid partly in kind; supplying brochures or flyers to Jeremy.

So far I appear to have the oldest unfinished kit – I think Iain’s has been on the road in the past – not a record I’m particularly proud of - though I’m not responsible for the first 10 years. I’m still a way off finishing especially as most of this year has been tied up with rebuilding /extending the house – the garage is off limits till I’ve finished. But I’m hopeful for next year – in fact I’m going to put a stake in the ground and sat it’ll be finished for my birthday next year – that gives me 14 months which real ought to be enough time!

Peter >> Had missed you off, how could I forget such a gregarious character !
You're now on.

Bikenuts >> Interesting that yours is chassis no 11 & a Sylva, and Revel Coles is SSC no 10 (the first-off from SSC).
Suggests some manufacturing overlap somehow, or possibly 2 no 11s :?

I believe Revel's has a Fury chassis/Stylus body (I'll ask Ruari on the sylva chatlist !).
Seems likely to me that Sylva made Revel's chassis & Pete Powell sold it on.
Is your's a proper Stylus chassis Matt ?

Rob >> Do you know the answer ??

I don't '' KNOW '' , the answer BUT don't forget that Jeremy built / sold a few as well as raced a Stylus so there are bound to be two 11 's because being a new manufacturer , Pete started his numbers from scratch even if not number 1

Ours is: SSC-S-L-013

Toyota 4age, classic body, live axle

I know he did a left hand drive chassis which he was then doing as a demo car after ours and i think that may have been it....

Got the car in 2004 i think!
