Well , I've talked about doing it long enough so having cut out the old air vents then filled the rest ------------ here goes  I did do a little drawing first but spent ages discussing with myself should they be smaller , larger or higher , lower --- slots or holes  etc etc . In the end it was down to what size hole saws have I got --- 95mm , 45mm and 20mm .

You can see quite a lot through the vents but once the edges are painted red and the inside matt black , It'll look ok from a distance -- the main thing being the radiator's smaller now plus the new ' flip ' is way thinner and the air needs to get through the engine bay and not get trapped , blowing out the sides

Shortest slot is 80mm x 45mm and the longest is 145mm x 45mm with 20mm gaps between all.

When I've done the drivers side tomorrow , I'm pretty sure there'll be plenty of airflow now and I'm going to drill some 95mm holes under the drivers side sill (same as under the exhaust manifold) to keep it cool around the fueling side too  getting it in isn't the whole story --- it's got to get out freely too

Thanks to Camoradi drawing my attention to the new ruling in the MSA '' blue book '' , I've sorted the timing strut problem. It's now ok to mount the strut between 180mm's and 200mm's from the ground , measured from the bottom of the strut. I've removed the 2mm aluminium blade and put in a carbon fibre 1mm blade with the hole in the clamping device 60mm's lower down so it's 195mm's off the ground now and the flip can fully tilt , the blade missing the ground by 15mm's :)
Just waiting for the Sikaflex to set tomorrow and the passenger side wheel/engine guard's made .I've cut out the bits to make the drivers side once I've bought some more Sikaflex  ---------- tomorrow  another 12 quid , it just keeps adding up :o

I'm getting close to the paint job now :D

Good job , cos I said I'd build a new cedar wood deck outside our new conservatory this Spring

The material for the guards is 1mm gauge kevlar but is from scrapped material so the guards dont quite meet the top of the body all the way round due to the size of scrap. Good enough to keep the engine bay clean though . Vary from 10mm to 30mm away :)
Being thin , I used 2mm carbon fibre as washers , to help hold it rigid. The rivnuts were already in place from the old alloy guards , one in the rocker tower support , the other in the same plate that holds the ' A ' frame. Then just one nut and bolt through the ' D ' piece close to the outside.
To Sikaflex the two pieces together , I taped them from behind with very sticky tape (thanks Andy  ) then after the Sikaflex inside was set , put a bead along the outside edge too . Left it at right angles to set , it's quite flexible to allow more angle once dry .
I may reinforce the top edge to stop it wavering about , we'll see .

As you can see , the timing strut clears nicely

Yes , no glue left . The small packets were ideal because I could keep opening more but once I'd mixed and opened the big tubes it had to get used or dumped  The important bits where it needed to be rigid got glued . Sikaflex allows some minor movement which doesn't matter on the guards etc.

Still got a few little jobs to do . A guide for the side shut to stop it shutting inside when you're doing it single handed. Also , have made a radiator air guide to sikaflex under the bonnet . Then there's the strengthening washers behind the sides of the F/glass holes to stick in place.
I decided to have a cleaning session today , it's just amazing how much dust gets all over everything that you've carefully wrapped up :o The engine bay/engine and chassis tubes/suspension were covered with white dust :x So it was small paint brush and hours doing that , after which I thought it deserved a wash . So wheeled it out and did that then started her up and ran it to temperature --- nice to here when all you've heard is a drill , sand paper and the stink of resin etc etc.
If I get a reply from my paint guy , it will be ready to paint the end of next week :D . After that it's setting up all over again

I've at last got a date for the paint job :D Joe Middleton's going to do it starting Monday 1st June :P Haven't seen him since he painted it from new build in 1999  With luck , if he's not disturbed doing other things , I'll have it back by the 6th June :D otherwise it'll be the following week :)

Starting to get it set up today , first stab anyway , final setting will get sorted when I run at Goodwood if I can get an entry for the TUNBRIDGE WELLS MC Sprint on the 27th June  Unfortunately I've missed the chance to test at Goodwood on Tuesday the 2nd June -- it'll be in the paint shop :x

Got GURSTON to look forward to on the 19th July though :D Not been there for a very long time so will have to be careful to stay on the tarmac with NO run off :o

Made a small C/Fibre arm to hold the air filter pointing in the right direction , just mounted through a drilled hole in the centre of the ' A ' frame/in front of the radiator.
Just the washers to glue behind the twist/grip side fasteners
Camber & toe sorted now plus stiffer ARB setting , just need to run it :)
