Matt has furnished me with a spherical bearing and cup holder (1/2 inch bore) to develop lightweight CDS tube top rockers . He's been looking at mine but isn't keen on the outer rodend -- hence the spherical bearing
It's quite a way off to actually make them but the idea is milling around in my head already so a jig will be the next move ---- just a bit too lazy to take mine out of the Stylus Some careful measuring and angle checking is on the cards
The spec will be an inner central bearing CDS tube to take needle roller bearings , allowing the '' old mini '' trailing link spindle . Drilled and tapped underneath centrally to take a grease nipple. Outer pivot to be a spherical bearing to take a straight pin , threaded . NOT a tapered pin as original. Inner pivot to be parallel 2mm plates drilled 1/2 inch to take shocks(OPEN not capped as originals).
Then both inner and outer arms to be 25mm CDS tube 1.6mm gauge plus probably a central single tube stretching from outer to inner pivot points.
When I get as far as having made the jig then making up the first rocker --- I'll put a photo up here ------ any takers after Matt gets to test them

Re: Top rockers
And this is the mod required to use Escort uprights with a rod-end top rocker, as expected its been done before
Was hoping to buy them off the shelf, but can't find any in Mini circles - anybody know somebody
This is the mod to the part similar to that we use (the Mini guys use the earlier type which can be disassembled, Stylus's have later Metro/MGF parts which are sealed units)
Under the ground off ball end a top hat is fitted to lock the pin upright. The upper taper is 7degrees, turned down parallel to suit the 1/2" rod-end. On a Terrapin single-seater, Rob Macknay (to credit, where credit is due), has made one-off pins to do the job. Not quite what I want, so I'll end up drawing my own I expect.

Re: Top rockers
The original SSC solution that we all had , unless changed as I did ie. METRO/MGF piece ---- ' could ' have the rubber boot removed then quite simply welded solid , after turning it down to a parallel pin
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Yep, was thinking that. Welding it all straight to hold it in the lathe chuck & turn it down might be difficult thoughstylussprinter wrote:The original SSC solution that we all had , unless changed as I did ie. Re: Top rockers
Alternatively then ------- cut the ball/swivel from it's hex screw fitting , weld a piece of circular 1/8th plate to the hex screw , drill the centre to 1/2 ins ---- add a NAS bolt , job done

Yes, good idea. Think I'd be going thicker than 1/8th thoughstylussprinter wrote:Alternatively then ------- cut the ball/swivel from it's hex screw fitting , weld a piece of circular 1/8th plate to the hex screw , drill the centre to 1/2 ins ---- add a NAS bolt , job done
But certainly quick, & cheaper than buying an M30 or M33 die too.....
