Next Saturday will be my first event this year after the gearbox problems at testing in April . I'll be more than a touch rusty but always love the challenge of Goodwood's 2.4 mile '' bottle '' assessment :P Not many entries in my class , just me and BAILEY Motorsport's brand new 1500cc £90,000 Radical
Can't win um all aye :) so will just have to attempt to beat my previous best time last year

I could really do with one or two pit crew / I'm on my tod this time --------- any offers :?:

Sorry Rob, will be on the mainland that weekend (it is the 15th isn't it?) but camping in the New Forest for a friend's birthday. If plans change I'll let you know :)

No one actually travelling down with me , unload , scrute etc but Marty Bailey will be there around 10-00am and my cousin Mel' will be coming about mid-morning . Just need dry weather now ------ only car in my class is the BAILEY MOTORSPORT's Radical

Hi Rob.

I was hopping to pop down, but we are going to Madrid this weekend.

Maybe I can get the live timing ~)

Goodwood stayed dry apart from a 5 minute leak which didn't harm the grip at all but boy was it windy :o It was really helpful that Marty Bailey and Nigel Baker were there to push the Stylus around in the line of cars before you actually get called up the pitlane. Performance wise , I struggled a bit yesterday . Practise was 99.93 sec's  which I wasn't expecting till I saw the timecard. First timed run wasn't much better at 98.28 sec's :o On top of that there was vibration/wheel wobble after the chequered flag when I needed to brake for the flag man , returning to paddock
I sat and thought it through corner by corner with no real clues as to why I couldn't touch or beat my majic 93 sec's here last year . Anyway , I went out for the second timed run really on it apart from fumbling a bit going into Noname grabbing 4th from 5th , otherwise a clean run --- knocked 4 sec's off at 94.56 sec's , a lot better but still off my 2012 Goodwood June event pace of 93.39 sec's from memory
Owing to the low entry numbers we had a third timed run but I actually went slower at 96.23 sec's so I called it a day. There was even another fourth run if you wanted but not to count for points .
Technically I came second in class behind the Radical SR3 but no honours for that --- only us two in class

Forgot to say that my little gearbox breather worked a treat --- not a dribble came out and a nice dry box lid , where it usually has a little oil seeping around the lid bolt area . Also of course I changed the oil volume to 1.6 litres from 1.9 litres --- but it does have ZX1 in with it too .

I just may have found my vibration on braking -------- driver's side wheel bearing is a tiny bit loose when I flipped the front and gave the front wheels a shake

Checked whilst off the ground and I was wrong --- bearings are fine so must have been something sounded/tapped when I rocked the wheel :?: Next step will be to get both front wheels balanced --- can't see any fresh marks of weights come off :?

Just got the results via Gary Goodwin which shows me 2nd in class but 11th overall , so a tiny plus to feel good over :P
Interesting that my friend's J15 with 2lt Duratec with TB's 220bhp , weighing 550kgs best timed was 100.9 secs but he's getting quicker each event he's entered (3 Goodwood's this year since new build)

Rod-ends ? - centre pivot backlash & lock nuts OK :?:

Rodends top outer were replaced when I refitted engine and box --- only the front left was worn OR rather the kevlar was coming out but I did both anyway. The bottom x 3 each side , appear to have no play but I'll check again , seeing as I can't find the cause yet.
Centre pivot -- you mean the top rockers Matt :?: They are dead tight , absolutely no play whatsoever and have been on there since 2005 with the original needle bearings :)

What I do need to do is get someone to wiggle the steering wheel while I watch the universal joint that connects steering to rack

I was meaning the wear/play in the rodend ball joint, but you've covered that anyway.

Seeing as I couldn't trace the cause of wheel vibration I removed them , cleaned the inside rim then got them balanced . One was 20grams under on the outside edge , the other was 20grams over on the inside edge. Couldn't see any freshly ripped off weight marks but of course rubber gets moved around under race conditions. Then having re-fitted them , I got Frances to wiggle the steering wheel while I looked at the univeral joint to rack connection ---- it wasn't dead tight , just about possible to see movement . Very hard to tighten more than it was already but did manage a 1/4 turn .
Hopefully that's sorted now
