Bottom ball joint conversion to rod ends for Sierra uprights
I'm assuming all uprights use the Sherpa van bottom ball joint QR1774RHT (I have Sierra uprights and sick of the boot getting pinched), is anyone here able to supply a pair of conversion pins and rod ends?
Thanks
Alex

pins can be bought here...
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... 1474245367
autograss/brisca/kit car/hill climb ford tapper pin
The problem will be finding a rod end to fit the Sherpa thread.
Rob F made new front bones for mine about 4yrs ago.
A project thread on hear too.
Not something I've looked at since buying SSC, but I'm sure it could be sorted.

Thanks for the info Matt, I hadn't expected the rod end to be the hard part! I'll get looking.
I'll let you know if I need to resort to new bones.

So...
ebay has a few at massively different price points:
£7.20 for 3/4" x 0.757" UNF OVERSIZE STEERING COLUMN Right Hand Male Rod End Rose Joint
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-4-x-0-757-U ... 58946a6e2d
£13 for 3/4" X 3/4" UNF Male Rod End Right Hand Rose Joint, Bronze Liner
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-4-X-3-4-UNF ... 3f42ddec03
£13 for 3/4" MALE HIGH QUALITY UNF RH ROSE JOINT/ROD END BRISCA F2 STOCK CAR (128a)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-4-MALE-HIGH ... 41928a0625
Or
£36.58! for Aurora Imperial Male General Purpose Rod End Bearings 3/4 UNF RightHand Thread
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aurora-Imperi ... 566246640a
The Stock car one for £13 looks pretty meaty, I could do with a recommendation from someone who has done this before as the only thing I know is that I don't want to get this wrong and find out the hard way!

Matt was talking about the taper pin to adapt your lower upright joint to rodends if changing wishbones but keeping donor uprights . The rodends themselves aren't the problem . I can get 31,000 lbs strength rodends for 10 to 12 pounds a piece from MacGill Motorsport -- google him
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Think sevensport is looking for a straight swap & keep the original front wishbones.stylussprinter wrote:Matt was talking about the taper pin to adapt your lower upright joint to rodends if changing wishbones but keeping donor uprights . So... eBay pin (for 1/2" rod end), as upright bottom pin.
& then it would need a 1/2" centre rod-end with the male part matching the Sherpa - It's imperial but about M22 irrc.

Re: Bottom ball joint conversion to rod ends for Sierra upri
You won't get a rodend for that combination , best to weld into the threaded end a 5/8th UNF threaded insert then fit a 1/2 inch rodend with 5/8ths shank -- about 12 quid from Mcgill plus the pin of course.MattD wrote:Think sevensport is looking for a straight swap & keep the original front wishbones.stylussprinter wrote:Matt was talking about the taper pin to adapt your lower upright joint to rodends if changing wishbones but keeping donor uprights . Matt, Rob, thanks for the info, I have it sorted!
Bought the pins Matt linked to on ebay, the seller does a bush to convert to 5/8ths, 5/8ths with 3/4 UNF rod ends are readily available. Happy days

Cool
A bit of future proofing for all owners using the sherpa joint really.
(learn something every day - Sherpa = 3/4 UNF )
