2008 Season

Post by stylussprinter »

Been busy getting the Stylus ready for my first event this year on 30th March at RUSHMORE Arena , just 1 mile away from Eelmoor. Had to re-fit the boot with carbon & slots to replace the hinges that I removed. Rear suspension needed re-fitting too cos I'd been using the arms for patterning. Whilst about it I cleaned it all and WD'd everything. Decided to lower the chassis a touch as there's still piston travel not used on the shocks , also decreased the wedge a touch.
Up front the suspension needed a good clean/WD plus camber adjustment to account for lowering the chassis so now it'll need the ' toe ' re-adjusted to where it was before lowering  (camber neg' increases as the car is lowered)
After all the hastle with the front brakes last year , I took out the Hawk Black pads(cooked) and fitted some Hawk HP Plus I had in the shed that'd only done 100 miles before I swapped them for the Black  This way I needn't go through the buffing procedure that Black require. Not being taxed etc , I would have to test at Goodwood to do it  MORE DOSH
The fluid already in the front is Anglo American Oil R600 but as the temp' probably rose to silly heights when it all jammed up solid at Llandow , I'll drain it and refill with new today.

So once that's done it's just the toe in/out to set again and it's all ready :D
Let's just hope the HP Plus can stop the car and nowt happens to the brakes this time  (didn't think much of them when they were on the car last time compared to Black stopping distance  ) Without testing I still can't be certain the pedal box is ok now
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Rob,

Have you checked the wheelbearings too? I think you have alloy hubs and maybe with the extra stopping power(maybe more front pressure) of the new MC's the disc heats up the hub and the bearings get stuck because of expanding hubs.

Might wan't to check that if you run into this problem again.

Not checked the bearings yet as there's no play in them . The pistons in the caliper were fully out and tight onto the pads plus the brake pedal was right back towards me and ROCK solid . They obviously didn't return on releasing the brake pedal then when applied again the pedal stayed tight at this end.
The only difference in my braking system is the floor pedals/individual master cylinders --- the rear not jamming. I've had all alloy hubs/uprights/calipers for 4 years without incident. I'm hoping that the re-build of the pedal box & washers plus winding some braking off the front cylinder towards the rear via the bias bar will do the trick. Having said that , at Llandow after Tim sorted me out , it was absolutely fine for 20 laps with some very hard braking then without altering a thing --- 2 weeks later on the sprint it jammed solid again ---- who knows ---- I certainly don't  Just hoping
