ARB

Post by stylussprinter »

Just had another order for a FURY SPIDER front ARB . It's recently (2008) had a very big shunt so has been totally rebuilt , chassis up and all new body etc . It will be interesting to see what he notices on track compared to before and his tutor Andy Walsh , who drove it before the shunt
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Should have posted this as an update earlier, but been busy, as in addition to the work on the ARB, I've had engine problems to solve.
As some of you may know I race at the Sepang F1 track, Last race, (end May) car let go on Lap 11 going into turn one, (braking from 6,600 in top around 135/140 MPH), I'd done exactly tha same thing as the previous 10 laps, so couldn't understand it, my thoughts were that the tyres had gone off. Any way remaing two laps my time was down. But what had acctually happend was that the new ARB Rob had supplied had ripped out of its mountings, the bolt heads had ripped through the poly bushes. Now replaced with metal cap over the top of the poly bushes. First time this had happend in Rob's experience, maybe a speed grip thing, Sepang is fast and grippy, and I run full slicks.
Any way two things.
1 The ARB did improve my handling and lap times,
2 Rob's back up was first class, new bushes in the post next day.

I seem to be getting orders via the ''sylva chat list'' since last year supplying 4 ARB's to other Sylva marques :) Some small modifications are required on some , due to the different locations of the bottom shock mounts within the ' sylva ' range of kits  A photo of their car's front shocks , looking directly down is all that's needed though to redesign the lower poly holding brackets.

Last night , I met David Hobbs with his Fury BEC half way between us , to supply an ARB for him to fit before he goes off on Friday for a 2000 mile tour around europe 8) Made it Monday am -- delivered it last night :P
I did have some levers already cut and drilled though which helped
Here's David with his Fury which has been raced in the SCOTTISH SPORTS & SALOON CAR series before he bought it 8)

He was too busy rebuilding his car last year so I didn't supply him the antirollbar as lots of money was leaking out from his pocket
Some of you saw the car here last August on the Stylus meet , eat drink and natter day. He's just re-ordered but the chassis isn't like other FURY's I've seen so will make an alternative mounting for him

Kelvin , I have taken note of your experience with big power plus slicks  and can now supply top plates with steel inserts welded to their underside , to ensure total grip security of the clamp.

Cost will be £8 per pair -- ie. a pair will hold one ARB
Anyone fearing Kelvin's experience just CONTACT ME

Here's a kit for an R1 Phoenix ready to go. If you look at the green poly clamps you'll see these new top plates I'm talking about :)

Rob

I'm going to need mine reworked - don't think the one I have will fit with the new lump.

But more on that later !!

Main thing is, once you've fitted one, there's no going back.

I'll have a look at your photos now the engine's out and design another option  Still needs similar leverage so shortening the arms isn't an option --- I'll come up with something

Hello Alex , how's your Stylus going :?: The delivered price is £187-50 unless you'd like the ''safety from Kelvin syndrome'' top plates then it's £195-50

That's £178-50 ARB
£8-00 TOP PLATES
£9-00 POST&PACKING

If top plates are required then I'll supply 10mm longer clamp bolts due to the SS socket heads not dropping into the poly clamp recess

Thanks Rob - I'll start saving. Have spent a fortune on the old girl this winter. new black top, A big fat cheque to Paul Dunnell, quiafe shafts, new springs, new inlet system (under development), BRIGHT oil pressure light (if I had that before then I wouldn't have needed new engine  ), new adjustable panhard rod with lowered mount, just need to finish bonnet mods and take it down to Aldon in Birmingham to get the weber alpha remapped to the new engine. Then once its mot'd and running right, I'll give you a shout re the arb......I got this car on the road in 2000, thats 10 years ago, and EVERY year I STILL seem to have loads to do to it...................i guess thats half the fun!

Just heard on the 'grape vine' that BGH are building a race FURY for the guy I supplied an ARB designed to fit his racing M.E.N.A.C.E  It appears they're using that same ARB for this FURY :o --- interesting , although it probably should have one made to suit
