Engine bay is clean and painted.

Now the questions start.

I need your opinions, electrics are not my forte, i know the basics and can follow instructions but fault finding i find a little more difficult and time consuming.

Here is a piccy of the dash, you can see why i may find that little lot a bit daunting, i have no wiring diagram and no instructions. The car is at the point now where i could remove the existing loom in a couple of minutes, and it would be easy to route a new one. Do you think its worth getting a new loom?, are they plug and play, ie, all labelled up and i just solder and plug into my lights and levers /buttons or is there more to it, the last thing i want to do is buy a new loom and end up with a whole bunch of wires much like i have now.

The engine ECU has its own complete loom and i have the starter motor and battery loom. I really just need a loom for the wipers and lights.

Final question of the day

Is this the stock fuel tank, it looks very small, does anyone know how much it holds? rotaries need lots of Shells finest.

If my dash wiring would be like that I would kill myself having a electrics/electronics bachelors degree.

I would rip it out and make one myself. It'll take some time but it will be tidy and just that what you need.
Problem with universal looms is that they're universal, so always unused circuits or not enough circuits, cables always too long, so need to work away overlength. Resulting in the almost the same you have now.

Just make it yourself and go circuit by circuit and bundle the wires using velcro untill you're finished and then wrap it up with tape and spiral wrap.

It's a standard midget tank with an added swirlpot (not standard)

7 gallon? I can't remember - but I added a big swirl tank under the bonnet to boost my range!

Good advice from Werner. It made me feel ill everytime I had to change something electrical on that car. 99% of what is there was on it when I bought it with the red top engine in. Anyway wire is heavy!

they supplied Tim with a universal loom and to be honest, its the best fitting one ive seen in a Stylus. Has everything that you need. All the cables are long enough, has very simple instructions and we didnt have any left over parts on it. Its about £100 i think and is money well worth spent in my opinion. Our wiring is very neat and tidy with their loom in.

its a complete module, as i have the wires that go to the lights and wipers etc, it would probably be easier to fit.

I would be very suprised if the tank holds 7 litres. I'm not sure how to go about the fueling, if money was not object, i would have a tank made and a swirl pot and 2 gravity fed pumps but unfortunately money is an object. I have an in tank pump that will fuel the power i want, i also have half a dozen stock mazda ones which are also in tank and will easily fill a swirl pot.

I dont mind buying a new tank but dont want to have to buy 2 pumps as well. OBP do a metal tank which i could drop the whole mazda tank assembly into which is an option. I will keep looking

Well i have no loom left, i tried to untangle it and gave up, i have a loom going to the back lights with 2 plugs and a loom going to the front lights with a plug on, the rest is gone, it was such a mess even removing the whole lot from the car i couldnt seperate it. oh the joy of electrics.

i have got the loom for the stylus as stated in a couple of posts above from vehicle wiring products. it was £100 and that came with all the spade connedtors to attach the loom to things and also a lot of heat shrink to make things tidy. it also came with a very easy to follow set of instructions to follow telling you where each individual wire has to go. also if you get any problems or aren't sure about something, they'll help you over the phone. they are pretty good. don't know if any of you saw the program on sky called Kit Car Crisis with the idiot who was building what i think was a radical or something like that. They provided the loom for that car!

for the stylus, the loom only had a couple of redundant wires and it all looks very neat under my dash. not got any photo's of the finished article though so you'll have to my word for it!

stripped, cleaned, painted and reasembled the rear callipers tonight and measured for the rear discs that i will need, it looks like mk1 fiesta front discs will do the job perfectly. should weigh a lot less than the drums, sprinter will be pleased.

also painted the fuel tank, i have decided for now i will use the tank and a swirl pot up front. Once its running a larger tank will just bolt in.

You need to talk to Anton as he has done his, from memory it's mk4 golf rear calipers(alloy) and pug 205 discs, but my memory is not what it once was

Anton can you do a guide and list of what bits are needed please

You have got this lot for wiring also they do looms which plug staight into sierra stalks and is apparantly easy to fit also. http://www.premierwiring.co.uk/
