If it's at the top of the steering column / steering wheel end then I cut and shaped a large poly bush / split one side. Forced it between the outer and inner and secured it with a very strong tie wrap. mine has somekind of bearing at the top but a plastic bush at the bottom by the end of foot tunnel where it comes out of the outer tube.

thanks for the link but i am keeping the escort steering column. I have still not been able to find one.
I do have a sierra column in good condition with barrel and key and all switches if anyone is interested.
I managed to get a set of sierra swithces mounted to my escort column. Just in the process of making the dash.
I'm not sure how to attach it to the car though. I seem to have some strange brackets coming off the horizontal bar that runs accross the car above your shins/knees. This holds a length of aliminium angle which intern held the dash. Not sure how secure thats going to be. anyone have ideas how it should go as it doesnt look original.

made a bit of progress today, mainly dragging her out into the sunlight so i could clean the garage out.
I have attached a few photos, if there is anything that you think wont work or looks dodgy please let me know, i can take constructive critisism
The rad will be fed by the front mouth and the i/c will be fed by the holes in the front clam. I have lots of ducting to make when i have fitted the flip front back on.
You can see the exhaust and my new bulk head in Ali, the stock one had lots of holes in it and the ali will give a little more heat proof. Once i know the wiring is all working, i will strap it and cover it all. I have still got lots of heat shield to make including a big one that will go 3/4 of the way around the first silencer to protect the bellhousing, bulk head and upper inlet manifold. The idea is that the bonnet scoop will send cold air around the silencer to cool it.
Capri LSD Atlas in place with cosworth rear calipers. you can also see the fuel pump and first filter.
Dash made up and positioned, i have the padding and vinyl but i'm not covering it or tidying the wiring until i know everything works. You can just see the digi dash behind the steering wheel. Stupid bl00dy people who made the ecu and dash controller put the com port in the side so i had to cut it a piece of the dash to accommodate it and then i will try and cover it somehow. I have recessed both displays.

made most of my Ali heat shields the other day and my cousin came round yesterday and helped me to the refit and hinge the flip front. I have now realised that I havent really got room to fit the 2 oil cooler in front of the front wheel but i still have loads of room behind the rad under the intercooler so that where they are going.
I need to make a couple of ali brackets to support the fibre glass where it joins and make a kind of slam panel so the 2 edges always line up. I was going to use a 3 inch strip of ali shaped to the contour of the cross section of the wing, sticking out an inch so that the flip sits on it, other than srewing or bolting, is there a way to attach it solidly without having anything bolts/screws showing from the top. Is fibre glass filler/resin strong enough?
Once i have jiggled the rad and i/c cooler a little i will be making an ali scoop that goes across the top of the rad to the base of the i/c creating a nice sccop for it.
sized up the i/c and rad hoses/pipes, silicone get expensive just waiting for a few bits to arrive. Just thought, I suppose ineed a battery aswell
Once I have the oil coolers fitted she will be ready to start.
Just need some gearbox oil and diff oil.
Anyone know how much oil an Atlas should take?

Layers of fiberglass matt and resin will be fine for what you are doing. After all the whole body is made up basically using that method. I warn you it's bloody sticky stuff though!

can i use the premixed stuff that comes with hardner?
i hate the dzuz fastners, they never line up with a big panel, the crack the fibreglass and pop open on trackdays, i'm big black rubber ones

I think you mean P40 type stuff which has some fibre strands mixed in. It is good stuff but I would go for the proper way of doing it even if it looks more messy as I have found it's stronger.
You will find a couple of layers will be suprisingly strong. You have done good work there mate - don't start bodging now!

good day yesterday, finally got her started. She fired on the button. Although I have built a few rotary engines now, they have always been put back in the rx7 that they came from, so this one with a complete stand alone ecu wired into the new car loom and a different car was a bit of a challenge for me. So it was a great relief wen she went as you can see in You Tube videos below. smoked the neighbours out for 10 minutes as all rotaries do after a rebuilt but running fine now. Next step is to get it mot'd.
