fitted new lower concave arms today with new GAZ shocks 15/10 with 1.9 dia ,10.5 long 200lb springs supplied by Tim , nice upgrade alot more travel and options to play with , now I can go softer on the damping always felt the back end was too stiff on the old set up but going soft on the damping started to bottom out . Tim looked at my car at Eelmoor last October and looking at his orange RT car and comparing the two
the old lower arms are silightly bent ,not asbad as some I've seen , the car has the same stance as the old set up , little bit higher at the back end , running 20mm of wedge , did'nt want to drop front end too much as exhaust pipe runs under the floor .
been meaning to do this upgrade for some time ,pull my finger out after seeing Rob's green stylus , can recommend this upgrade to anyone running the 12/85 AVO with 8in springs or 13/90 AVO with 9in springs at the rear end
Very big thanks to Tim and Rob
cheers Andy Bailey

Working Suspension on a budget ??
Hi All,
I have a Stylus built on a 1999 chassis, the rear springs had sagged a bit so the back shocks where only about 15mm off the bump stops so I have just wound up the rear spring platforms as far as they will go. I've discussed the options with Tim but due to the cost's involved with replacing most of the rear suspension there is no way I can find enough £££ to go down the "factory" route. However as my fabrication skills are reasonable - I've made suspension parts and modified a chassis in the past, I have been thinking about making some new rear arms to suit the existing 13" AVO shocks, these would be a similar design to Tim's but have a reduced angle (Lower the shock mount by approx 30mm) allowing the shorter shocks to work correctly (Rather than hitting the bump-stops when you drive over a leaf ) and allow a reasonable ride height.
While the suspension is off the car I was also planning to fit 225Lb springs to the front and move the 180's to the back, I know this is not going to be a simple bolt on conversion but its the old time / £££ compromise, which may not work as well as Tim's redesign but it has to work better then what is currently fitted to the car !

Re: A warning !
Following this from a distance, I'm now a little concerned that my stylus (bought 2002, still not on the road ) has the "wrong" trailing arms.
These appear to be made from two pices of straight 1" box tube welded to each other with simple brackets to hold the shocks - no bend or reinforcing on the bracket area. The shocks are GAZ, I can't recall what the springs are. FYI I'm doing this from memory as I'm stuck in a nasty part of the middle east for the next two months - so no photos or measurements avail yet
Do i need to try and get some replacements straight away, or is someone willing or able to post dimensions of the latest fashion in bent arms? (I'll just throw in a quick pre-emptive "haha" to photos of strong-men competitions )
Grateful for any advice there is.

If we were meant to walk we would not have invented the car. ;o))

Yours are not wrong, just the early types wich give less comfort. I have em too as do many other people.

Having the straight arms means that you need to run the rear ride height high enough to allow piston travel in the shock ab' or you will bend those arms. Comfort's not the issue , it's being able to lower the car and still have plenty of piston travel .Werner Van Loock wrote:lambostylus wrote:Following this from a distance, I'm now a little concerned that my stylus (bought 2002, still not on the road ) has the "wrong" trailing arms.

Re: A warning !
Has anyone tried modding the straight arms to a bent arm (cut'n'shut, with a bit of reinforcing around the bracket)? I imagine the actual length shouldn't be changed, but what is the new offset of the shock bolt from the trailing arm centreline on the new-style bent arms - if that makes sense??
Mind you, I'm not trying to ruin anyone's business by not buying new - but moneys a bit tight to mention right now and I've had hardly any use out of the old arms!

Re: A warning !
Just measure from centre to centre ---- axle arm bolt to shock . This needs to be the same to avoid fouling top shock mounting plus easy clearance of the axle and same leverage lbs. Others have done it but just make sure the arm length -- centres are the same otherwise you'll have diff nose angle changes which will cause havoc. 50mm lower is the desired bottom new shock mount position . You can then fit 15inch shocks with 9 inch springs -- lower the car and still have loads of travel.lambostylus wrote:Has anyone tried modding the straight arms to a bent arm (cut'n'shut, with a bit of reinforcing around the bracket)?
